LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Dear Graciela: After receiving yor letter, and having seen the work you and Charles Fisk have done, I still cant bring myself together, so many familiar names, so many memories! It is so true, there is something very special we inherited from our community and everything Chuqui means to all of us. We may be older or younger, we may be born to families of different descent, etc. But we hold together even at great distances, despite the time passed and the fact that there is a life to live, perhaps differntly, by each and every one of us. I share your feelings towards Chuqui and what it has meant. Sadly, I have not been able, (as yet) to take my daughter and son up north and show them the place where I was born. I suspect there will not be enough time to do it before we leave (again), this time to Sydney, Australia (I will be posted there as Consul General de Chile, starting January 2000). I used to have a collection of Chilex Weekly numbers, mostly from the sixties, which were lost in one of my many trips abroad... (just the thought of it still hurts..). Thanks, again, for bringing back those memories and a part of our lives I am sure most of us keep as a treasure, deep in our hearts. Best regards, Jorge jcanelas@ctcinternet.cl
Regards C. J. Olsen
think your page is great and it will be easier to bring "chuquicamatinos" closer. If I find something interesting I will forward it to you. The school song just got inside me! I hadn't heard that for years, but it seems yestreday. un gran saludo Carlos Paulsen jr.
Hi Grace, Thanks for the pictures of the family. Maybe you hit the wrong button but it was fun anyway. Been busy as the proverbial bee for the last nine months. Started out with an empty field and lot's of time on my hands when I first arrived here, but since then it's been rush, rush, rush. Now we have the plant built, processing and selling product, and about 30 employees. I keep telling Claudia things will slow down soon and I'll be able to stop these 16-18 hour days. Bevin and Kimberley - our daughters - will be coming to BA in December where we'll meet them and show them the town, fly back to Saenz Peña, then drive to the Iguasu Falls. From there, we'll take our annual drive across the Andes to spend New Year's with my family in Copiapó - all six aunts, one uncle, 32 first cousins, and innumerable offspring. Sounds like fun, huh? Strangely enough, it is fun and we enjoy ourselves immensely, whilst stuffing ourselves with empanadas chilenas, grapes, watermelons, damascos, mariscos galore, and an asadito every now and then to keep our cholesterol levels up to dangerously high levels. By the way, if you want to update the address info, we don't live in Mendoza ... we live in the Chaco province of Argentina. Bye for now and keep up the good work. Un abrazo y saludos from Don and Claudia.

Hola Charlie, I hope all are Ok out your way. We are enjoying beautiful fall weather here. Mother Nature has once again, put on her spectacular dispaly of colors for us. Nelly and I have been here over 6 years now, but we are still in awe of how beautiful it is every fall. Hope you guys can come share it with us sometime soon. I was wondering if anyone has mentioned to you that they are having trouble accessing the clickable photos in your September publication. Every time I have done it, it locks up my computer. Tried it on my son's machine and the same thing happens. I use Internet Explorer, but my sin uses Netscape. Do have a solution? Gracias, Charlie! Take care. Richard Richard Dickenson Reply Some people have found that the 1945 interactive photo can lock up your system, after studying this problem I have to say: The 1945 photo does lock up the computer if you have IE4.0 or Netscape less than 4.6. I tested extensively and I will have to divide the photo into three parts as the older browsers choke on a large set of people. But I have been so busy I have not been able to put the correction. We will be going to Dallas again this week; so I will try to get to it next week. In the meantime do not play with the interactive photo for 1945. . Did anybody try the Magic Mirror? Charles Fisk
Re: September Chilex Weekly: Wow! It's great. What a lot of work you and Graciela do! Abrazos, Renee
Hola Senor Carlos, I ran across this old clipping from year 1967 which you may find use for in one of your future editions of your publication. Don't know if Miss Dubler is still with us, but I recall having her as a teacher in the 5th and 6th grade. She was tough as I recall. I have been under the weather a little, but find I am getting on track again. Can't keep a good man down. Looking forward to your next Chilex Weekly 2000. Take care. Saludos, Richard P.S. Almost forgot; I ran across a web sight put out by Lester Zeihen. He is in Butte, Montana and is affiliated with the University. He must be an old man. I remember him as an engineer in Chuqui when I was a kid. That's all.

Hello Charlie, Enjoyed your Sep issue of Chilex Weekly 2000. You obviously have put a lot of work into getting it ready. I hope as time goes by, more and more folks will hear about your publication and let us all know of their whereabouts. I look forward to Oct. I was wondering if you have heard from John Bradford. I have sent a couple of notes, but have not had a reply. I hope all is going OK. I am sending you the Lester Zeihen's web site, per your request. It is as follows: I just happened to be surfing one day and ran across it. No mas. Saludos de N.H. y Floyd Richard Dickenson

"C. J. Olsen" wrote: Hola Charlie: Te pasaste. Great work! The way you presented the Foundation is awsome. Although I can't get all the text in my screen. I have to use the horizontal scroll as I read. Do I have to do something on my end to get a full line across? Grace hasn't anounced the september issue yet so maybe you guys are not done with it. Carinos a ti y familia Chao CJO

Charles Fisk

One of the first things I did with the September issue of the Chilex Weekly was to try to retrieve the interactive Foreign School 1945? photograph in order to identify some people on it. Unfortunately the photograph does not want to interact with me!! As I had no problems with the other two interactive photos, wonder if the culprit is my computer or have other people had trouble accessing the same photograph? If it is not my compuer, can you fix the problem? By the way, I am nearly 99% sure that the photograph was taken in 1944, not in 1945. Have not finished reading the September issue, but have enjoyed it so far - especially Richard's vintage photos. Regards to both of you, Paula Michell epm@octa4.net.au

Reply: I am still baffled by this glitch, if I solve it I will be very proud of myself! Charles Fisk

The Foundation thing is pretty cool but it's so wide that I have to scroll back and forth to read it and I loose interest because it's so long and I'm constantly scrolling back and forth. Is that just me? Graciela
