Sent: Monday, November 15, 1999 9:16 AM Hello, Thanks for the latest issue of "Chilex Weekly" I especially enjoyed reading the article about "El Teatro Chile" I too have fond memories of the many Saturday nights John Bradford and I spent there as kids. Also enjoyed seeing the fotos of Ruth Mac's school. My memories of the days I spent in that old building are among my most treasured. (Less complicated and more civilized times, they were!) Take care! Ex Rio Loaite, Richard A. Dickenson Charles, Hi again. I sent a note to Johnny earlier today. I didn't know him well, just knew of him. His Dad operated on my leg in Chile. Since you are of the genre you indicated, it is prbably my brother Bill you knew. He was there at the same time as you and is 63. You may also have known Dennis Chellew - he was there then and is 64 or 65. We'll be sure to call you when we get back and we look forward to meeting you! Cheers, Stan Charles Fisk wrote: Guess you were one of the younger crowd. I am 62 and spent from 1942 to 1956. I am working at USAA in San Antonio, prior to that I spent 30 years in IBM and I was moved around a lot. I have been in San Antonio since 1993. Have been married to my HS sweetheart since 1962, have two daughters, two cats and 1 dog! Give us a call when you come to Houston 210-738-2768. Did you know Johnny Bradford? He also lives in Houston and is also in the oil business. Stan Beaver wrote: Charles, Your name is familiar to me as well. I was in Chuqui twice - once from 1949 to 1952, though I don't remember much from that sting. The second time was 1957 to 1961. I'm now 52 years old. I was in Mrs. Rasmussen's (?), Miss. Seitz' and Miss Stanley's classes. I was on crutches part of the time. We lived up in 1204 (I think that's the right number) next to the reservoir, across the road from Cunliffe's. I used to pal around with Arthur Swain, the Cunliffe boys, David henderson, and Pete Woodbridge. I see from your address you're in San Antonio. Are you from there originally? What are you doing there now. My wife is from there (her maiden name was Pizzini), and we've lived in Houston off and on since 1976 (I'm with what is now BPAmoco). In fact, we'll probably be finishing our expat assignment here in a few months and we'll be returning to Houston. Let me know some more about you so I can jog my memory further. Cheers, Stan Charles Fisk wrote: Stan, I recall your name; what years did you spend in Chuqui? Just want to know if you and I met as kids. Stan Beaver wrote: Am I glad to see your site! I've often wondered what happened to many of the people I knew in Chuqui. My current E-mail is: thebeav@net.ntl.com My home address is: Stan & Martha beaver 3 Oldfield Wood Woking, Surrey GU22 8AN U.K. This is going to change back to Houston soon. I'll post a new address when it does. Stan P.S. I saw Jose Avendano in your list of unknowns. I saw him at UofA in 1967 or 1968. My understanding is that he was killed in a car accident. Kenny brown or Doris Ross might have more insight on this. I also have to admit that I cannot remember you Graciela (nee ?). There was quite an age range of kids in Chuqui during the 50's and although I recall many of the people listed, some will have been from a different age group. I will give it some thought and give you some other names you haven't mentioned in future mail. I would certainly like to be included in your regular mailshot and would be pleased to receive any back copies you can give me as the names and stories refresh ones own thoughts on past experiences. Having lived in England since 1960 (apart from the odd vacation in Chile during the summer months) has meant I have not kept in touch with my friends from those days. We all went our separate ways in the world and got busy with our various lives. The only regular contact I had was with Vernon Jolley and his family and I used to visit him once or twice a year when in the New Jersey area. Sadly you know the rest of the news and although I have Michael's address I haven't visited him or the family since Vernon's death. I do get over to the Americas on a regular basis for business reasons so I will, time allowing, try to make contact with any one who is 'en route' when I can. I would like a copy of the list of addresses you hold and likewise you can pass mine to anybody interested. I have special memories of Chuqui - it was for me a strange, once in a lifetime experience at a very formative time in my childhood. Certainly it was an uncommon experience for many of us and one that has left its mark deeply etched in my mind. I would be pleased to see anybody from those days who is passing this way as it is great to remember all the crazy things we got up to. By comparison life is very controlled for today's young generation. I live with my wife, Susi, and son Rupert, at the following address:- 38 Ashley Drive South, Ashley Heath, RINGWOOD, Hants. BH24 2JP Email: robert@barmond.com Business Tel: (44) 1909 775500 I look forward to hearing from you and others. Best Regards Robert J. Leighton |
