Dear Mr Fisk,
First, many, many thanks for the work you and Grace have done for all of us.
I think we all appreciate it beyond words.
I have some information on some folks who lived in Chuqui long ago.
Genevive (Antonich) LaMotte lived in Porterillos from Sept 1928 to March
1934. Then she was in Chuqui from June 1937 to July 1938 as a student. She
returned to Chuqui in Oct 1942 to teach in the Foreign school until Dec 1945.
She is the daughter of Milano and Anna Antonich who were in Chuqui from 1936
to 1951. She now lives in Tucson with her husband of 50 years, Stuart
LaMotte.
She is friends with my mother-in-law, Karolina Stupar, who was in Chuqui from
Jan 1936 to October 1946 and then in Tocopilla until 1964. Mrs. Stupar lives
with us in Tucson.
Thanks again for all you good and hard work.

Hola mi amigo Charlie,
Just had a chance to look at the new edition; GREAT!
I am glad your publication has begun again. I missed it!
Sorry to hear that Ms. Osterberg had decided not to
participate any longer.
I did enjoy her additions to the publication.
I hope her decision is not final!
I hope all is going well down in your neck of the woods.
I look forward to a new issue. In December?
Best regards,
Richard A. Dickenson

Hi, Charlie,
Sorry to hear that Graciela is stepping down, and hope she knows how much
her efforts are appreciated. Gracias, Grace!
Thanks for another super issue! I enjoyed it tremendously and do appreciate
the link to my Chuqui page. It is a pleasure
to do a site about South America. Seeing the photos of the Chilex Club and
your new map brings back so many memories.
Who would have thought that so many years later, we'd be in touch again? I
wish I'd kept in better contact with people after I left Chuqui, but it was
a pleasure to hear from Carolina Gopfert. Hope to hear from more
Chuquicamatinos and -tinas!

It was a "blast from the past" to read the latest issue of the on-line
Weekly. You are to be commended, Charlie. For some reason I never saw
the April issue before. I enjoyed memories of the Chilex Club too. I
think there is something about our childhood as chuquicamatinos that is
somewhat surreal. It is always exciting to read about someone who lived
in our peculiar but often thrilling environment.
I can remember "crashing" a New Year's Dance at the Club with Jo Ann
Key. My dad was in a good mood and didn't scold us. Not even Mrs.
McLaughlin (the school principal, who was also there) scolded us. It
was close to midnight and everyone was in a good mood. We danced with
everyone although we must have looked out of place in our sweaters and
skirts when everyone else was in evening dress. I couldn't wait till
the following year, when I had been away to Santiago College and could
threfore officially be allowed to attend. I wore my beautiful yellow
chiffon dress that my aunt bought for me at the "nearly-new" shop where
she worked as a volunteer in Ottawa, Canada. You know what? It was
okay, but the first party was much more fun.
I enjoyed seeing the article on Ian Davidson, whom I never really knew
except as one of the "to-be-worshipped" older kids. His toys are
impressive. I think Clarence does similar woodwork, doesn't he? I have
just read his account of Iguazu which I translated for my
brother-in-law, because we went there (my older sister and I, with our
husbands) in 1994, when we made a long-delayed pilgrimage to Chile.
I also enjoyed Glenn Waterman's account of the feeling-no-pain Foley
Brothers employee bringing his trout to the Chilex Club! Do you
remember the legendary fish they called "Old Lasana"? Someone caught
that fish, I believe, but I don't remember who.
Well, Charlie, I just want to congratulate you again. And Graciela too,
for all her work she has done, especially as being the "prime mover" for
the Chuqui network. That's a lot of work you both have accomplished.
Even more work than making pastel de choclo. :-) Our own Canadian kids
used to love pastel de choclo, but for our grandchildren, the "jury's
still out." It doesn't help that the beautiful 13-year-old older
granddaughter is a vegetarian.
Abrazos,
Renee
