What an honor it was to be asked to write a small tribute to Dr. Bradford! It has been at least forty years since I last saw this incredible man, but it seems like only yesterday, he was patching up some small injury, with loving care and concern, always making me feel so very special. I would cry sometimes, but he never made me feel anything other than a big brave girl.
I have traveled the world, have seen many doctors, some good, some not so good, but have truly never come across any, with the dignity, charm, and ability that graced Dr. Bradford.
I shall always treasure the wonderful memories I have of my youth in Chuqui. and a large part of those memories include Dr. and Mrs. Bradford.
I too must include their son John, who along with my wonderful brother Richard, made my childhood extra special. What glorious times they created, and graciously included me. Thanks guys!!!

With great respect,
Barbara Cantrell Dickenson

Webster defines physician as "a healer or a person skilled in the art of healing." That description, without question, applies to Dr. Bradford. However, he was so much more than just a physician. He was also a humanitarian, a philanthropist a man who was dedicated to his craft and a good friend to the less fortunate and campesinos of Northern Chile. I can say, without reservation, that Dr. Bradford influenced my life more than any other. In my youth, I was fortunate enough to have been able to spend a great deal of time in the Bradford home. Dr. and Mrs Bradford accepted and treated me as their own. Johnny, (as he was called in those days) was the brother I never had and the two of us were inseparable. We spent countless hours together, often in endeavors that were of a dubious nature. I recall, during those days, of traveling to San Pedro de Atacama with the Bradfords and how Dr. Bradford would dedicate most of his "vacation" hours to treating the sick of that little village. All without complaint or compensation, I might add. Even as a kid, I admired his dedication and am even more in awe of it today. I left Northern Chile in 1949 and have since been treated by a great many physicians. None, in these past, over 50 years, have inspired the confidence I had in Dr. Bradford. He was a GREAT man and it will be a long time before the world will see his equal. Saludos,
Richard D.
