A NOTE FROM GRACIELA

In 1945, the year in which I was born, there were probably no more than 25,000 inhabitants in Chuqui. Many of my friends and I were born in the old hospital near the mine. Others came to call Chuqui home after having come there with their parents from many parts of the world: Argentina, Bolivia, Yugoslavia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada . . . and in 1957 there were 55 nationalities represented.

When we left we again dispersed all over the world. Many went to Iran, Mexico, Australia to work and live. Currently we are living in: Australia, Argentina, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Chile, Costa Rica, Mexico, Canada, Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States. . .

We all are who we are based in great part to our lives in that unique place - Chuquicamata "A Golden Place to Rest." Many of us can define ourselves by who we were when we lived there, the friendships formed and the shared experiences of our different cultures. That place, surely, made us better by opening our eyes.

This page is in honor of that place and all who lived there.

Graciela

A NOTE FROM CHARLES & ELENA

It is wonderful to be back between childhood friends. For those who do not know who I am, I would like to introduce myself and my wife: I am Charles Fisk III and my wife is Elena Collell. We currently live in San Antonio Texas.

I lived in Chuqui from 1942 to 1956, 14 wonderful years that I will never forget.

When Graciela sent me a note, telling about the wonderful work that she has done I immediately suggested that we should build a web page to become the repository of memories and to revive the beautiful friendship we all enjoyed in Chile.

You can find out quite a lot about us by going to our web page:
Fisk Family Web Page

The important thing right now is to revive all those strong ties that we built as children. Your participation is strongly encouraged, send us anything that will increase the wealth of this web page. Your personal recollections, photographs etc. will be something we can all share.

In the archive section we have already included several photographs, I hope you have fun trying to identify who we are in those pictures.

Mrs. Mac, our beloved teacher, will be explaining how we are to use the interactive photos. (I hope that I paraphrased what she would have done had she had the opportunity to write this herself).
